The Division

The main objectives of the Division are to raise the standards of patient care through training and development of practitioners by way of arranging top class Faculty Study days and promotion of research and clinical audit in practice.

We have been fortunate in the past year to have Michael Wise speak on Occlusion and John Nasedkin (Vancouver) on the 3M's of Aesthetics. Both these courses were well attended and received.Following on from this, over the next year Professor Dahl (Oslo) will lead a study on the "Clinical Management of Toothwear" in November 1995 and Chris Stock will lecture on Endodontics in May 1996. ands-on workshops will be an integral part of these courses.Further information will be circulated in the normal way. We ask for your support as members, and that you will encourage others to attend.

The Divisional Board has within its membership Research and Clinical Audit Advisors who are willing to assist where necessary. A grant is available for anyone interesred in carrying out research in General Practice. The Diploma tutor continues to organise courses to help those wishing to take the Diploma.

It is the Faculty's aim to be an authoratative source of standards in general dental practice and it is their intention to ensure that any purchasers of primary dental care are made aware of the significance of Faculty membership.

The Faculty has been consulted on the future management of Dental Postgraduate education, purchaser/provider systems, training of auxillary personnel, accreditation and radiological standards in practice and will be a key layer in all matters relating to dental practice in the future.

Although the membership of the Faculty nationally continues to grow ,within the Division it is fairly static. We would ask members to encourage colleagues to join. The annual subscription can be recouped by attending the two Faculty days, through the reduced rates to members.

The Division now has a seat on the Board of the Faculty nationally and it is hoped that "grass root " opinion can be expressed via our representative at his level. Please feel free to contact myself or another board member if you have any suggestions or would like further information about the Division's activities.

Dr Nick Palmer BDS DGDP(UK)
Divisional Director
